Dr. Alec Schumacher - Associate Professor of Spanish at Gonzaga University
Mery volunteered her time to give a poetry writing workshop for students at Gonzaga University on March 3 2025. Her unique approach gave students the opportunity to connect in meaningful ways to what they were studying by opening the door to seeing poetry as a vital daily activity. Her poetry reading and reflections on the writing life were inspiring to find poetry in everyday experience, zoom in on it, and open it up for poetic reflection. The writing activities that she has developed worked great to solicit student work and generate discussion. Students were excited to interact and ask her questions about her work. I am grateful for the impact that her visit had on our students.
