Planet Penance
Cannot imagine
a place where you exist
and I am
free
to
spin.
You, a Universe.
A world best kept
by close orbit lap dog,
a locket, house plant,
Resentment like
an asteroid.
Petition the cosmos
for
[space ]
Cannot imagine
another existence
besides, blazing.
Combustible comet
And you’re heading
straight for me.
[And yet]
I close my eyes,
visualize
Beyond infinity, imagination:
Light years away, furthest from
the [ ].
I am icy blue
giant of the unimaginable
vastness.
Scientist wonder if
I am not entirely made
of frozen ocean water.
Neptune.
Out here in this
circumstellar happenstance
my palms
eclipse Kuiper’s belt.
I melt against the galactic island
of unlikely circumstances.
from arctic to ash,
into nothing
of nothing,
primordial.
[here]
the Sun
does not depend
on my rotation.
my own resplendent star
a constellation reads:
to love you
does not mean
to burn.
